The ideal germination conditions for cyclamen seeds are 18º Celsius and darkness. Professional plant breeders mostly use a germination room for this. After germination the seedlings are placed in the greenhouse at a temperature of 20-30º Celsius and exposed to light. It takes approximately 8 weeks before the seedling are ready for transplanting! This means a long –expensive - nursing period in the greenhouse. With a germination of 80% this is even more costly, as 20% of the greenhouse room is wasted.
FST has developed a seed treatment to diminish this problem and to increase the amount of usable plants by 8 to 15%. The treatment consists of a combination of disinfection and priming. Although the result varies per seed lot and variety, plant breeders are really enthusiastic about it. Another benefit is the accelerated germination of slow germinating varieties. With a storability of at least 6 months (under conditioned circumstances of 5º Celsius in sealed packing), the Cyclamen seed treatment is a welcome addition to our product range.
