Xampla and Croda / Incotec to work on biodegradable seed coatings

02 February 2022  A new partnership has been announced between Incotec’s parent company, Croda, and Xampla, a University of Cambridge spin-out company. The aim of the collaboration is to develop next-generation seed coatings that are microplastic-free and fully biodegradable. Backed by the UK government and the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, the £640,000 project trial of Xampla’s plastic-free seed coatings, will bring biodegradable replacements for seed coating polymers. Erik Jan Bartels, Managing Director of Incotec “To keep customers ahead of the proposals by ECHA to ban the use of microplastics in seed coatings, Incotec has already introduced microplastic-free seed coatings for several crops including sunflower, corn and vegetables. We are excited to be working with Xampla on the development of completely natural coatings”.
The development of an alternative range of microplastic-free products is part of Mission Zero, Incotec’s sustainability strategy, committing the company to minimize their environmental impact and to always look for the most sustainable solutions to help customers achieve their goals.
